Product Description

Beetroot moulin rouge seed by Mr. Fothergill's. Easy to thin, monogerm variety. An excellent quality 'monogerm' variety, it produces only one or two plants per seed so greatly reducing the need for wasteful thinning. The sweet tasting roots can be harvested young as 'baby' beet or left to mature.

Useful Information: Easy to grow variety; Folate; Dietary fibre; Potassium

Sow and Grow: Outdoors: Sow thinly, April-July, where they are to crop, 2.5 cm (1-inch) deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-cultivated, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Allow 30 cm (1 feet) between rows. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Thin seedlings to 10 cm (4-inch) apart, or 5cm (2-inch) apart for baby beet. Water well until plants are established. Regular sowings, made every three weeks, should ensure a continuous supply of young beets. Harvest: June-October.

Hints and Tips: Twist the leaves off to prevent the colour 'bleeding.' Harvest alternate beets from 5cm (2-inch) diameter, leaving others space to develop.

Care and Cultivation: Harvested roots can be stored in dry sand for winter use.
